What the tests do with your data
All hardware tests on this site (keyboard, key code, mouse, microphone, webcam, dead pixel, monitor, gamepad and screen info) use standard browser APIs and process everything locally on your device. Keystrokes, mouse clicks, controller input, audio streams and camera streams are used only to draw the test interface in real time. They are never transmitted to our servers or to any third party, and they are discarded the moment you stop a test or close the tab.
Microphone and camera access always requires your explicit permission through your browser. You can revoke that permission at any time in your browser settings, and the device is released as soon as you stop the test or leave the page.
How to verify that yourself
You do not have to take the paragraphs above on trust, and this is the part of this policy worth acting on. Open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and run a full microphone or webcam test on this site. After the page itself has loaded, no request goes out. Not a smaller one, not a batched one: none. That is what client-side means here, and it is checkable in about thirty seconds.
The same applies to the full-check progress list, which is the only thing this site stores anywhere. It lives in your own browser's localStorage, you can see the entry under Application in the same developer tools, and the clear button on that page removes it.
Third parties that actually load
The complete list, as of the last update to this page, is one item: the web fonts served through Next.js, which are self-hosted from this domain rather than fetched from an external font service. There is no analytics of any kind, no tag manager, no chat widget, no heatmap, no session recording and no advertising network.
Because there is no analytics, there is also nothing that could record what a test found. That is deliberate and it is stricter than it needs to be: even an event saying that a test completed would be a piece of information about your hardware leaving your device, so there is not one.
Accounts, cookies and advertising
MyGearCheck has no accounts, no sign up and no login. It sets no cookies. The ad slots that exist in the codebase render nothing at all: they are inert unless a build-time flag is set, and it is not set. There are no affiliate links on this site at present either.
If that ever changes, this page changes first, before the change goes live, and it will name what was added rather than describing it in general terms. A privacy policy written to cover things that might happen one day is a privacy policy you cannot check.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like virtually all web hosts, Vercel may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP address, requested URL and user agent) to operate and secure the platform. See the Vercel privacy policy for details on how they handle that data.
